Graeme McDowell searching for final push in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Graeme McDowell remains on course for a top ten finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship this afternoon, after consecutive rounds of 67 launched him into contention over the weekend.

Playing partner Tyrrell Hatton, however, took all the limelight as he shot a third round 62 to leave him three strokes clear of compatriot Ross Fisher.

Speaking after his third round, McDowell said he was happy with his overall performance.

"I'm happy enough after my start at Carnoustie," he told Nick Dye. "I finished terrible there from making three bogeys to end the day after hanging in there. I played really well at Kingsbarns yesterday and played quite nicely at St Andrews.

"I shot five-under but have to hand it to my playing partner Tyrrell Hatton who shot a tremendous 62 and made it look very easy out there. Conditions were very benign but you've still got to play the golf. Five-under felt mediocre in comparison to my playing partner.

"Every day it could have been better, I left a few out there for sure at Carnoustie and a few out there yesterday. You always leave a few out there when you're not birdieing nine and 10 and 12. I actually bogeyed twelve, I hit a bad tee shot and made bogey. But I held on coming in and gave myself some opportunities. It's always nice to birdie the last.

"I'll need to go lower in the morning to do any sort of damage on the leaderboard. It's nice to be semi in-the-mix and I'm looking forward to getting out there."

Of Hatton's scintillating performance he said: "You always end up slip-streaming a guy when they end up playing as well as they are, you can very often hang onto their coattails to get yourself in the groove.

"There was a good buzz out there, we only made one bogey between us and that was mine unfortunately. Tyrrell played really well, didn't hole much but hit the ball close all day... I know he's turning into a very, very talented player."
