Gunnar Nelson has exciting options after win in London

Iceland's Gunnar "Gunni" Nelson entertained the crowd at the weekend to a slick second round submission of Alan Jouban at UFC London.

Nelson dominated the fight, setting the pace and confusing Jouban with his unorthodox movement from the start.

A product of both the Mjolnir Gym in Reykjavik and Dublin's Straight Blast Gym, Nelson said he hoped to fight twice again this year.

The Icelandic fighter has rebounded well from his comprehensive defeat against Demian Maia with two submission victories and is now targeting the upper echelons of the UFC's welterweight division.

Champion Tyron Woodley has just fought Stephen Thompson but both would be too much of a jump given the list of contenders between Nelson and those two.

Jorge Masvidal is due to face Maia at UFC 211 in May while Robbie Lawler has set no date for his return after being knocked out by Woodley last year.

A bout between "Gunni" and number four ranked Carlos Condit would be the ideal match-up for Dublin's adopted son. Condit was submitted easily by Maia in his last bout and Nelson could prove just as tricky for the "Natural Born Killer".

Although contemplating retirement, the perennial contender doesn't want the loss to Maia to be his last and would be a good test to see where Nelson really stands in the division.

South Korea's Dong Hyun Kim returned from his two years of military service in an exciting bout with Tarec Saffiedine and a match-up with Nelson would solidify the winner's position at the top of the division.

And of course, Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone always entertains and will be looking to bounce back from his loss against Masvidal which snapped his four fight win streak.

Whomever he chooses, 2017 is shaping up to be a good year for Gunnar Nelson.
