The UFC have announced the Gunnar Nelson is to fight in the main event of the their Fight Night card in Glasgow later this summer.

Nelson, who is trained by SBG's John Kavanagh will fight Brazilian Santiago Ponzinibbio in the five-round bout. Both men are ranked in the top 15 of the welterweight division.

Unbeaten in his last two fights, the 16-2-1 Nelson recorded submission wins over Alan Jouban and Albert Tumenov. The Icelandic fighter has never been stopped in his professional career, with the losses against Demian Maia and Rick Story coming on the judge's scorecards.

Ponzinibbio has won his last four fights in the organisation, and has a 6-2 record int the UFC and a 24-3 record overall. Unlike Nelson, the Brazilian has yet to fight in the main event of a UFC card though.

Nelson goes into the fight as the higher ranked fighter, but a win of Ponzinibbio could push the Brazilian into the top-ten for the first time.

The Icelandic fighter is the third Irish-based fighter on the card. Neil Seery will fight Alexandre Pantoja in his retirement bout, while Charlie Ward will look for his first UFC win against Galore Bofando
