Shane Lowry and Padraig Harrington are both in the mix after an impressive opening round in the Memorial Tournament.

Harrington carded a one-under 71 to leave him just six shots off the joint leaders David Lingmerth and Jason Dufner, in a round which featured birdies on the fifth and sixth hole along with a flurry of pars.

That puts Harrington in a tie for 26th with Bubba Watson and Russel Knox among those sitting alongside him in that position.

Meanwhile, Lowry is only one shot further back. He hit three birdies and three bogeys on the way to carding a level par 72.

World number one Dustin Johnson had a forgettable first round, with a triple bogey on the 16th hole as well as a double bogey on the front nine, to keep him 13 strokes off the lead.
