Harry Kane admits international scoring record is under deserved scrutiny
The Tottenham striker, and back-to-back Golden Boot winner, has scored just five goals in 17 international games17:03 Thursday 8 June 2017, 17:03 8 Jun 2017
Harry Kane says he understands why there is a degree of scrutiny over his international scoring record.
The Tottenham striker has won the Golden Boot for the last two seasons in the Premier League and in the final two games of last season, managed to score seven goals.
This record stands in stark contrast to his performances on the international stage, where the 23-year-old has managed just five goals in 17 appearances for his country.
Kane says one of the reasons for this may be the familiarity to playing with club players consistently.
"With club football you're in a rhythm all the time, you're playing week-in and week-out," he said on Thursday.
"With country it's not like that. You meet up every now and then and that's something I have to get used to."
England prepare for this weekend's World Cup qualifier with Scotland at Hampden Park and Kane says his confidence couldn't be higher after a prolific end to the season.
"It's not often you score seven goals in two games to finish a season and claim the Golden Boot as well. As a striker it's a great moment for me and it's something I'm very proud of - to retain the trophy.
"The end of the season was strong. I felt in the last couple of seasons before that, I didn't do that as well. It's good to finish in that manner."

Kane dismissed that he was under additional pressure to perform when he pulls on an England shirt.
"As a striker you'll always be under that scrutiny. People are always going to be looking at you for goals whether it's club or country.
"I'm looking forward to the game and getting out onto the pitch. I haven't played for England for a while because of a couple of injuries."
He added: "Who knows, maybe a hat-trick on the weekend and a couple in the next game, the ratio might not look so bad."
