Harry Redknapp hopeful of leading Birmingham City next season

Harry Redknapp is hopeful that he will be Birmingham City manager when next season begins.

The experienced 70 year old took charge of the club's last three games of this campaign, winning twice against to keep them in the Championship.

His last permanent, full-time role was with QPR over two years ago.

He told Sky Sports News that Birmingham is a fantastic club that can be moved forward.

"Yes, if everything is right. The owners are nice people, having met them I was really impressed so yeah I'm interested," said the former West Ham, Portsmouth and Tottenham Hotspur boss, adding that he hopes the club's owners are intending to invest in the first team.

"You don't want to go through another year like this, it's no good to anyone is it. Hopefully, we can strengthen the squad and I think they want to do it. They're ambitious and I think they can do it, that's all I'm asking for."

Redknapp had been appointed in April after Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola resigned after four months in charge.

Birmingham last played in the Premier League back in the 2010-11 season when Alex McLeish's side also won the League Cup by surprising Arsenal in the final.
