Henshaw left out of World Cup opener as a precaution

Joe Schmidt has named his Ireland team for their opening game against Canada at the Rugby World Cup.

Connacht's Rob Henshaw misses out on his World Cup debut. The Athlone native sits out the game as a precaution but is expected to feature against Romania in Wembley next week. Luke Fitzgerald takes his place at number 12.

Keith Earls replaces Tommy Bowe on the wing and the Limerick native is joined by Dave and Rob Kearney in the back three.

Iain Henderson's impressive performances in the warm up games sees him join captain Paul O'Connell in the second row in place of Devin Toner. The leinster second row has failed to make the 23 man squad with Donnacha Ryan taking his place on the bench.

Ireland team:

(15-9) Rob Kearney, Dave Kearney, Jared Payne, Luke Fitzgerald, Keith Earls, Jonathan Sexton, Conor Murray.

(1-8) Jack McGrath, Rory Best, Mike Ross, Iain Henderson, Paul O'Connell, Peter O'Mahony, Sean O'Brien, Jamie Heaslip.

Subs: Sean Cronin, Cian Healy, Nathan White, Donnacha Ryan, Chris Henry, Eoin Reddan, Ian Madigan, Simon Zebo.

Earlier today, Canada named their side to face Ireland. Jamie Cudmore is to captain the team in the absence Tyler Adron.
