Homer Simpson "inducted" into Baseball's Hall of Fame

'Homer at the Bat' remains one of the most popular episodes of The Simpsons.

The episode which was first broadcast in 1992, focuses on a softball team at Springfield's Nuclear Power Plant which includes Homer Simpson. Once the team reach the Championship game, Mr. Burns brings in a number of professional players to win the game.

While the episode is now over 25-years-old, it's popularity still remains. Last weekend, Homer Simpson was "inducted" into Baseball's Hall of Fame.

Ten Major League Baseball players starred in the episode, and Steve Sax, Wade Boggs and Ozzie Smith were all in attendance to meet Homer at the Hall of Fame weekend.

Don Mattingly (and his sideburns) were sadly not in attendance.

"I get asked as much about being on The Simpsons as I do about baseball," Sax told the Associated Press last weekend. "They don't want to know how it was to hit against [Hall of Fame pitcher] Nolan Ryan. They want to know about being on that show."

As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the episode, a Simpsons-themed exhibit has opened in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
