How the Irish fared on Day 4 at Rio 2016

After Paddy Barnes' early exit on Monday, Day 4's action at Rio 2016 saw another Irish boxer eliminated.

David Oliver Joyce came into his fight against second seed Albert Selimov in the Men's lightweight ranks as the underdog and the Azerbaijani opponent had too much as the Athy boxer lost by unanimous decision.

It was a better day for Annalise Murphy who continued her good start from her first two races with a fourth and seventh place finish in Race 3 and 4 respectively in the Women's Laser Radial event to move up to second overall with six more contests to go ahead of the medal race.

In the men's event, Finn Lynch is 24th overall after his third and fourth race.

It was a disappointing day for rower Sanita Puspure after she finished the quarter-final of the women's single sculls in fourth position, just one place shy of a spot in the semi-final.

The equestrian eventing team finished eighth overall after Tuesday's show jumping section.

In swimming, neither Shane Ryan (100 metre freestyle) nor Nicholas Quinn advanced to the semi-finals.

Ryan did finish second in his heat and Quinn won his but their times did not get them into qualification spots.

The Men's hockey lost their third match from three in Group B as third-ranked Germany came out on top.
