Hull City issue positive update on Ryan Mason's progress as he begins recovery from skull fracture

Hull City say Ryan Mason "continues to make excellent progress" after sustaining a skull fracture in a Premier League game on Sunday.

The 25 year old was involved in a sickening accidental head clash with Chelsea's Gary Cahill at Stamford Bridge during the first half of the match.

In a statement, Hull say he will be closely monitored by hospital staff over the next few days and will remain in contact with the club's medical team.

"The Club can confirm that Ryan Mason continues to make excellent progress after sustaining a skull fracture in Sunday’s game against Chelsea," said the club in a statement.

"He will continue to be closely monitored by staff at St Mary’s Hospital over the next few days, whilst also remaining in contact with our medical team to assess his progress.

"There will be no further updates from the club until there are any changes in Ryan’s condition. We also ask that people respect Ryan and his family’s privacy whilst he remains in hospital."

Last night, the former Tottenham midfielder's family issued a statement, thanking well wishers for their support "during what has been an extremely traumatic 24 hours".

Mason joined Hull from boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur in the summer for a club record fee of about €15 million.

The Chelsea match was his 16th Premier League appearance for Hull.
