Hurling to return to Fenway Park in November

Hurling is to return to Boston's Fenway Park later this year.

It's the second time a modified version of the game will be played at the home of the Boston Red Sox. Following on from the Super 11s game between Galway and Dublin in November 2015, four teams will play in Boston this November in a double-header on November 19th.

The Super 11s format sees each team play with only 11 players instead of the traditional 15. There are no points allowed in the modified format, with the larger football goals being used in each game.

Galway won the inaugural Fenway Classic in 2015, defeating Dublin 50-47. Insurance company AIG sponsored the match in Boston, and they have confirmed on Thursday afternoon that they will sponsor the events in Fenway Park later this year.

The 2015 match was marred by an on-field brawl between the two sides. The majority on players had to be separated from each other during the exhibition match, in the second half.

Almost 28,000 fans attended the game in 2015, with a larger number expected this year due to two extra teams participating. Like the 2015 encounter, the game will follow an American Football college match, with University of Connecticut playing Boston College the day before.
