IABA cancel two box-offs to determine places in the final Olympic qualifiers

The IABA have decided to cancel two box-offs that were to decide the Irish team's final two qualifiers for the last Olympic qualifying event in Azerbaijan next month.

Middleweights Michael O'Reilly and Connor Wallace, along with light-welterweights Ray Moylette and Dean Walsh were due to meet in the National Stadium on Tuesday evening with the winners earning the final two spots in the team.

The last-minute change means that the four fighters, along with Sean McComb, will have a week to impress head coach Zaur Antia and try and book their place in the tournament in Baku. The decision will only be made four days before the tournament begins on June 14th

The five fighters will all travel to Azerbaijan with the already qualified Paddy Barnes, Brendan Irvine, Michael Conlan, David Oliver Joyce, Steven Donnelly and Joe Ward.

Team captain Darren O'Neill and Dean Gardiner are also competing, looking to qualify in the heavyweight and super-heavyweight divisions.

Along with Katie Taylor, Ireland's team currently stands at seven, which is already one more than the team that went to London in 2012.
