Ian Madigan open to leaving Leinster

Ian Madigan's future might lie away from Ireland as his signature is being chased by a number of clubs in France and England.

The Leinster player has found it difficult to nail down a starting berth with the province, but not for the want of trying, given that he's played at full back, centre, out half and was rumoured to be trying his hand at scrum half before the World Cup.

While that versatility is an asset that makes him important to Leo Cullen, his own ambitions mean that he has stated openly before that he would be open to leaving the province in search of more regular playing time.

Speaking to The Irish Times, he stated "I’ll weigh up the pros and cons of staying here, the pros and cons of going elsewhere, the ambitions of the other clubs".

Madigan's name has popped up on the radar of a number of clubs, given that his contract runs out at the end of this season, including Harlequins, Bordeaux-Begles, Montpellier and Championship side Bristol, who are vying for promotion to the top flight next season.

With Leinster struggling in the Champions Cup and set to undergo a transitional period under Cullen that could last beyond this season, Madigan may join the likes of Donncha O'Callaghan and J.J. Hanrahan in leaving Irish shores to broaden his horizons.
