Ian Nagle looks set to return to rugby after spending a year away from the game

Former Munster forward Ian Nagle is reportedly set to return to the professional game after deciding to step away from the game in July 2014.

The Irish Independent have reported this morning that the 27-year-old Cork native wants to return to the professional ranks after he finishes his studies in Cambridge.

Nagle was man of the match in the Munster team that defeated Australia in 2010, but found it difficult to break through to the starting team regularly. He joined Newcastle on loan early in 2014, before announcing he was to step away from the game.

He represented Ireland at underage level, and featured in the Wolfhounds and Emerging Ireland teams between 2011 and 2013. He played over 25 times for Munster.

"Munster made it clear that the door will always be open for me to come back. There were a few clubs that I spoke to before I finished with Munster and I flagged it with them too that I was thinking of taking time away from the game. I have kept in touch with a few of them throughout the year. If I hadn't been accepted to the MBA I had a few opportunities to go back and play rugby, but when I got in a few of them said the door would be open for me to come back".

The Irish Independent report that Worcester Warriors and London Irish lead the battle for his signature in England, while Munster, Leinster and Ulster are also interested.
