Ice Cube has announced a new venture which aims to accommodate retired NBA players in a half-court three-on-three format.

Speaking at the announcement of the "BIG3" tournament, Ice Cube said: "It sucks to see your favorite players retire. There's nothing good about it, especially when you know they still got game.

“My father always told me if you don't think big, you will always be small. So, we came up with a big idea. It was to bring a style of basketball that I grew up playing, watching, and loving, which is 3-on-3 basketball,” he added.

Former NBA players who have signed up to play include former MVP Allen Iverson, Rashard Lewis, Kenyon Martin, Mike Bibby, Chauncey Billups, Jason Williams and Bonzi Wells.

Speaking at the launch press conference, star signing Iverson said: "I’m just happy to be a part of it. I just hope little kids just get a chance to embrace it and love it for what it is.

"This isn’t going to be the only time we do it. It’s gonna go on, and on, and on. It’s gonna be a part of our culture. I just love the fact that I can be a part of it,” he added.

The new format will see the first team to 60 points win with three additional four-point scoring zones.

Of course, Cube is no stranger to the court himself, as he no doubt truthfully recounted his skills in his hit 'It Was A Good Day,' outlining that while merely "messing around", he still registered a triple double.
