John Kavanagh says he'd like to see Conor McGregor fight Frankie Edgar for the featherweight title after he takes on Nate Diaz in August.
McGregor will face the Stockton southpaw at UFC 202 in a welterweight bout, a rematch of their fight at UFC 196, and Kavanagh says Edgar would be the natural choice, should the American beat Jose Aldo.
"There's a couple of interesting fights coming up, obviously Edgar is fighting Aldo now and I'm curious to see how that one goes" he said.
"Robbie Lawlor is defending his belt and obviously Conor is involved in a welterweight fight. Dos Anjos as well is defending his belt, so there's a big scene playing out now.
"It's hard to predict. For me, ideally, Edgar would run through Aldo and then Edgar and McGregor would fight in New York.
"The way Edgar ran through Mendes is very, very impressive. I do think Mendes went into sparring a bit too early after taking a lot of heavy shots in his fight. Aldo seems to have taken enough of a rest after his fight with McGregor, which was really only three shots.
"I hope we see the best Aldo and the best Edgar. Hopefully Edgar can do something similar that he did to Mendes. That would tell me, OK we have to do this one because he's beaten everyone else in the division.
"To do it in Madison Square Garden would be great, easier for the Irish fans to get to. You know, Madison Square, Muhammad Ali fought there. I would definitely push hard for that fight."
