"If you can do it without alcohol, why not" - Philly McMahon on celebrating All-Ireland glory in his own style

Dublin's Philly McMahon has heaped praise on the county's supporters after emerging victorious in Saturday's All-Ireland final replay against Mayo.

The 29-year-old corner-back joined Newstalk Drive a couple of days out from retaining Sam Maguire.

McMahon described his county's fans as the "best in the country" as he reminisced about the weekend's celebrations.

"The Dublin fans, they bring so much colour and excitement to the game, especially on an All-Ireland final day," he said.

"So it was great to get to Smithfield and celebrate with the fans. It was amazing."

But as a non-drinker, he also gave his perspective on celebrating without alcohol.

"I wouldn't know what it's like drinking and how much that supports you to stay awake. But I do be half asleep because I'm so tired, I don't have any sugars in terms of alcohol to keep me awake. But I try my best to carry on with the lads and celebrate and enjoy as much as I can. But yeah, I suppose, if you can do it without alcohol, why not."

McMahon also spoke of his "massive respect" for Mayo after they pushed Dublin close in the final and replay.

He also spoke passionately about his work with charity.
