Commission rules Mourinho "endangered people around him" by kicking water bottle

An independent commission has revealed the precise reason for Jose Mourinho's most recent one-match touchline ban.

The Manchester United manager watched their League Cup tie with West Ham away from the dugout after being punished for kicking a water bottle in the previous game against the Hammers in the Premier League.

A three-person independent commission ruled Mourinho had "aggressively kicked the bottle in a manner that could have endangered people around him regardless of the motivation to do so" with his actions.

The Football Association released the written reasons for the punishment.

But Mourinho was also praised for being "genuinely remorseful" and giving a sincere apology.

"Mr Mourinho ought to be credited for his admission to the charge, his non-confrontational actions when engaging with the officials subsequent to him kicking the bottle and his apology, which the commission accepted as being sincere," said the commission.

He was also fined after the incident last month.

Meanwhile, West Bromwich Albion and Watford have been fined £45,000 each for failing to control their players.

Both clubs admitted a Football Association misconduct charge, which related to their Premier League meeting earlier this month.
