Ireland's U18 rugby sevens side have claimed glory in Romania this weekend as they were crowned champions of Europe.

Ireland's side cruised through the group stages of the competition beating Moldova 54-0 and Israel 57-0, before also beating Russia to progress to the latter stages.

They overcame Portugal in the semi-final with ease by a scoreline of 36-0, while similarly put a commanding display in the final, claiming a 31-5 win.

Hungary, Ukraine and Lithuania also claimed silverware at the tournament.

Speaking ahead of the event, president of the Romanian Rugby Federation Haralambos Dumitras underlined the importance of the tournament for the young players, saying: "I consider this tournament as a celebration of rugby because we have a chance to see, on the field, the generation that we will eventually see in a few years at the Olympics in 2020."
