Ireland assistant coy on potential to blood more new talent before Six Nations' end

Ireland assistant coach Richie Murphy has hinted that capping more new players could be a possibility in the final games of the Six Nations.

Stuart McCloskey, Ultan Dillane and Josh van der Flier were the debutants in the defeat to England on Saturday with injuries opening up opportunities for fresh talent to be blooded.

With home outings against Italy and Scotland to finish the campaign, Richie Murphy has been asked if there is likely to be more first caps handed out by head coach Joe Schmidt before the end of the championship.

He remained coy on the matter when speaking to the media today.

"We'll have a look at the whole thing and we'll try and make, if there are opportunities to bring people in, that might happen," he said.

"We've obviously brought in the three guys already and whether there will be any more or not, we'll have to wait and see."

Meanwhile, there is some good news from the Irish camp today.

Ulster centre Jared Payne, who missed the England match, did not train with the rest of the players today. But he did a full session with the Irish medical staff and is now expected to be fully fit for their next outing against Italy on Saturday week.

Of the players who haven't been released back to their provinces for the weekend, scrum-half Conor Murray was the only player who didn't train today after receiving eight stitches just below his eye after last weekend's defeat to England at Twickenham.
