Ireland's Alex Pearce completes loan move to Bristol City

Republic of Ireland international Alex Pearce has completed a loan move to Bristol City from Derby County, as he goes in search of first team football.

The 27-year-old signed for Derby on a free transfer last summer, after coming through the youth ranks at Reading, but has found it difficult to break his way into the squad.

With Derby chasing promotion, his appearances have been limited to the FA Cup and Capital One Cup to date, so has decided to move to Bristol City on loan, despite the fact they are at the bottom of the Championship table in 22nd place.

In a statement on the Bristol City website, interim boss John Pemberton said "Alex will offer us experience; he knows this division inside out. He’s a good lad and a leader".

He added that "when I spoke to Alex, it’s clear how desperate he is to get into the Ireland team for the Euros – if he does that then it means he will have played well for us".

Although he may not factor in Martin O'Neill's plans for the Euros just yet, getting regular football will certainly be no harm to his case, and has clearly been one of his main considerations as he makes the move.
