Ireland's Louise Quinn scores a brace as Arsenal Ladies defeat Birmingham

Two goals from Ireland's Louise Quinn helped Arsenal to a 4-2 victory over Birmingham City Ladies, a result which brings them up to second place in the Women's Super League (WSL) One Spring Series table.

Today's performance will carry huge significance for Quinn after her previous club Notts County folded just two days before the Spring Series began. She was also part of the Women's National Team (WNT) stand-off with the FAI regarding the apparent treatment of the players and a demand for better standards.

Although her future was uncertain after Notts County folded, she signed for Arsenal shortly after, and today's result marks a huge moment for her.

Arsenal had to claw themselves back into the tie after Birmingham - the FA Cup finalists - took an early lead after just 38 seconds through Rachel Williams.

Heather O'Reilly and Danielle van de Donk edged Arsenal back in front before Williams nabbed the equaliser for Birmingham moments later with her second goal of the day.

Ireland international Quinn then came to the rescue with two headers in the final 12 minutes to secure the win and push her side up to second place on the table, four points behind Liverpool Ladies.
