A number of fans who have applied for tickets to watch Martin O'Neill's side in action in France this summer may well end up disappointed.
Fans who have applied for tickets using their debit cards in the hopes that they will be travelling to see Ireland take part in the European Championships could be in line for some bad news.
Speaking on Lunchtime, Newstalk.com's business correspondent Joseph Conroy stated that "we've been on to the FAI, they've said that it is only credit cards to be accepted, no debit cards".
Conroy added that if you've already made the application, you can change your payment method, but warned "once applications close this weekend, you cannot change your payment details. So if you have a debit card and they're not taking them, it's goodnight and good luck, you're not going to Paris or Lille or Bordeaux".
However, there may be some light at the end of the tunnel as the Welsh FA have been interacting with fans on Twitter and telling them that debit cards "may not" be accepted by UEFA.

The key word in that context is "may", and there has been no confirmation given.
Having made contact with UEFA, the governing body sent an official statement to Newstalk saying "it is only credit cards that are being accepted as a form of payment. Even though in some countries debit cards might work, the payment process is only guaranteed if you use a credit card which can be debited with the amount required".
Newstalk has contacted UEFA for further clarification on whether or not Ireland is one of the countries in which debit cards would work.
