Irish man arrested in Brazil for touting tickets

An Irish man is being detained in Rio on suspicion of ticket touting.

The Brazillian newspaper Estadao reports that Irish citizen Kevin James Marlen was arrested on Friday at a hotel near the Maracana stadium.

He faces charges of illegally selling tickets at above face value for the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

He has been refused bail and is being held at a detention centre. A search of the Irish man's possessions has been ordered by the Judge in the case.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance.
