Irish rower wins women's half marathon just days after performing at the Rio Olympics

Just one week after appearing in the final of an Olympic event, Irish rower Sinéad Jennings was competing again this week and won the women's Half Marathon in Donegal.

Jennings, along with her doubles partner Claire Lambe, finished in sixth place in the final of the lightweight double sculls and along with the O'Donovan brothers from Cork, they have propelled rowing into the national conversation.

Increasing the profile of rowing in Ireland, is an ambition that Jennings touched on during the Games. Speaking to Off The Ball's Richie McCormack, she talked about creating a legacy for the sport by making the final.

And the performances of our rowing teams in their respective finals, have achieved just that. Participating in a half marathon in the first week of her return to Letterkenny, showcases the kind of drive that Jennings has exuded at the Olympic Games and reaffirms the legacy she has cultivated for the sport.

Sinead's unofficial time was one hour 23 minutes and 40 seconds, according to Donegal Now.
