Irish trio qualify for steeplechase final at the European Championships

Sara Treacy, Kerry O'Flaherty and Michelle Finn have all qualified for the 3000 metres steeple chase final after this morning's action at the European Championships in Amsterdam.

Finn ran in the first of today's heats, finishing fourth in 9:45.93 to secure automatic qualification for Saturday's final. 

Treacy and O'Flaherty both competed in the second heat, with Treacy finishing in fifth in 9:42.16 to take an automatic spot. O'Flaherty finished just behind her in a time of 9:45.53 to qualify as one of the fastest fastest runners up.

Christine McMahon also qualified as a fastest loser from the 400 metres hurdles heats.

During the evening session, Ciara Mageean is through to the semi-finals of the 15-hundred metres after a third place finish in her heat but Marcus Lawler had to settle for seventh in his men's 200m heat in a time of 21.33 seconds.

The last Irish athlete on track this evening will see Amy Foster compete in the semi-finals of the 100 metres.
