Corofin manager Stephen Rochford has emerged as the favourite to become the next Mayo football manger.
The Connacht champions are looking for a new manager after Pat Holmes and Noel Connelly stepped down at the weekend after only a year in charge. The duo had lost the faith of the players, who instigated the move.
Rochford guided Corofin to the All Ireland Club Title earlier this year. His side face Mountbellew-Moylough in the Galway Senior Chmapionship Final this weekend.
The Crossmolina native won an All Ireland title as a player in 2001 with the Mayo side and has recently been involved working in the Mayo GAA Academy before taking up the position in Galway. He became the first man to win an All Ireland as a player and an All Ireland with another team as manager earlier this year.
Rochford is expected to stay with Corofin as long as they remain in the Championship. That could end as early as this Sunday, or last until next March.
