"It means everything" - Na Piarsaigh captain Cathal King reacts to All-Ireland Club victory

Na Piarsaigh made history this afternoon as they lifted their maiden All-Ireland senior hurling club championship, becoming the first Limerick side to do so.

A fast start saw them hit the back of the net after just 30 seconds and captain Cathal King said that this was how they wanted to execute their game plan.

"We were looking to play a whole 60 minutes high intensity match, because we hadn't done that yet" he explained.

"We've allowed teams to come back into the game and we wouldn't be at our best for 10 or 15 minutes in the match. We knew the moment we went out on that grass we wanted to be hopping and hopping until the moment we came off again."

The strong start dealt Cushendall a mortal blow and King added that this was a very emotional victory for his team.

"It means everything [to hold this cup], it means a lifetime of hurling and playing ball and stick against a wall was worth it.

"It means everything to be recognized as the best team in the country at the moment."

The victory will go down as momentous in the club's history, but for King himself it hasn't quite hit home.

"Going up the steps to collect the cup hasn't quite sunk in yet" he said.

"That'll be something for tomorrow morning or the morning after to realise the history that goes into a victory like this. It was amazing to look down at the team and the amazing support that came and just the whole atmosphere at Croke Park."

Manager Shane O'Neill added: "We weren't going to win if we didn't have the performance and I think it was the manner of the performance and the boy's attitude from the word go has been phenomenal."
