"It's the worst injury pain I have had" - Paul O'Connell on his Cardiff injury

Former Ireland captain today has described the injury he sustained against France as "the worst injury pain" he has had.

O'Connell was stretchered off at half time in Ireland's eventual World Cup win against France and described the pain today at an event in Dublin. He described how the pain came from his sciatic nerve due to bleeding and bruising caused by the tendon injury.

The former Irish captain was speaking today at a PINERGY event as the company launched its latest innovations to help Irish electricity consumers manage and control their energy usage and costs.

The Limerick native said he hopes to return to the game within the next four to eight months. He added that the surgeon was "very happy" with how the surgery had gone but O'Connell said he is not "naive" to think the recovery will be plain sailing.

O'Connell also looked forward to his move to France.

"I'm hoping to go in December over to Toulon. Logistically, we've to pack up our house and get ready to move. I actually can't do anything [due to the injury]. I can't tie my own shoelaces because that stretches the hamstring. I need to get off the crutches before we can really plan and make the move over there."
