Jamaica's Nesta Carter appeals against stripping of Olympic gold

Usain Bolt's relay team-mate Nesta Carter has appealed against the decision to strip him and Jamaica of Olympic gold because of a positive drugs test.

Bolt and Carter's other team-mates have already been forced to hand back their 4x100 metres relay medals from Beijing 2008, with the now eight time Olympic gold medallist Bolt, telling Reuters that handing back his ninth gold was not easy.

At the time, Bolt said: "It's rough that I have to give back one of my medals and I already gave it back because it was of course required by the IOC. I'm not happy about it but it's just one of those things that happen in life. I can't allow that to deter me from my focus this season, so I am focused but I am not pleased."

The case now goes to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Carter's lawyer Stuart Stimpson confirmed that the court documents had been filed.

In other competitions, Carter was also part of Jamaica's London 2012 4x100 metre winning relay team.

The 31 year old sprinter also won gold in the same event at the World Championships of Daegu 2011, Moscow 2013 and Beijing 2015.

He also won bronze individually at Moscow 2013 in the 100 metres.
