Jamie Vardy named as the Premier League Player of the Year

Leicester City's Jamie Vardy has been voted as the Premier League Player of the Year.

The striker has scored 24 league goals so far this season, and is joint-second in the scoring charts. Only Harry Kane, with 25 goals, is ahead of the 29-year-old.

Vardy has played in 35 of Leicester's 37 league games this season. The two games he missed were due to a ban he received near the end of the season, after being sent-off against West Ham last month.

Last November he made history by becoming the first player to score in 11 consecutive games in the Premier League era. That run of games saw him score 13 goals.

The award, caps of a fine season for the striker. He was named the Football Writers' Player of the Year. He also came second in the vote for the Players' Player of Year behind team mate Riyad Mahrez.

Leicester City end their Premier League season away to Chelsea this weekend. Vardy is also expected to feature heavily for the England national team at Euro 2016 this summer.
