Premier League champions Leicester City have received a massive boost with the news that striker Jamie Vardy has signed a new four-year deal with the club.
It is the second time in four months that the England striker has signed a new deal with the club. He is expected to increase further his wages in a new deal. He was on a reported £80,000-a-week.
Vardy was reportedly in the sights of Arsenal. The London side had made a bid for the striker before Euro 2016, and at one point looked set to move to the Emirates Stadium.
The 29-year-old scored 24 goals for Leicester last season in the Premier League. He also cemented his place in the England squad and scored against Wales earlier this month.
In a statement released by Leicester on Thursday morning, the club announced that Vardy was to stay with the Premier League champions.
"Both parties hope that this announcement will end recent speculation regarding Jamie’s future and confirm his long term commitment to Leicester City Football Club."
"Jamie will continue to focus all of his efforts on trying to achieve success with the England team at the European Championships in France."
"There will be no further comment from either the Club or the player on this matter until the conclusion of the tournament.
Claudio Ranieri's side begin their Premier League defence away to Hull on August 13th.
