Jan Vertonghen set for six weeks on the sidelines

Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is set for six weeks on the sideline after damaging ankle ligaments during Saturday afternoon's win over West Brom.

The North London side ran out 4-0 winners at White Hart Lane in what proved a comfortable win, but there was some concern when the Belgian defender was withdrawn after just over 64 minutes of play.

"When your mind is positive it's easier to recover," said Mauricio Pochettino.

"He doesn't require surgery. We have players that can perform in his place and we are very happy with the squad and the players we have."

Tottenham's defensive solidity have seen them win their last seven games in all competitions and helped Pochettino's side amass the best defensive record in the league.

They have conceded just three goals in their last seven games, scoring 21 goals in total. Dele Alli's double ended Chelsea's run of 13 consecutive league wins and saw them close the gap on the league leaders to seven points.
