Jason Day pulls out of the Olympic Games

Jason Day has become the latest high-profile name from the golfing world to rule himself of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The World number one has followed in the footsteps of Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell, Vijay Singh and Marc Leishman in deciding not to compete in the first Olympic golf event in over a century.

Day has cited fears over the Zika virus, as his reason for pulling out of the event in August. The US PGA Champion has said that potential risks to his wife's future pregnancies was the main factor behind his decision.

"I have always placed my family in front of everything else in my life", Day announced. "Medical experts have confirmed that while perhaps slight, a decision to compete in Rio absolutely comes with risks to me and to my family."

Day's withdrawal means that Jordan Spieth is now the highest-ranked player scheduled to compete in Brazil.
