Jermain Defoe has all but confirmed that he will be making a move to Bournemouth.

The Sunderland striker is expected to use the clause in his contract allowing him to leave for free following their Premier League relegation last season.

The 34 year old is currently preparing with England for Saturday's World Cup qualifier against Scotland.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Defoe revealed that some of the hurdles towards a transfer have already been surmounted.

"It's out there, a lot of people obviously knew. I did a medical and said when this is finished and I've had a break, come July everyone will know anyway," he said.

"It's too soon to put it out there. At the right time, I would like to say 'this is the club I'll be playing for."
