Jermain Defoe says no decision has been made on his future

Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe says no decision has been made over his future, with reports linking the England striker with a move to Bournemouth.

The 35-year-old is currently on international duty with Gareth Southgate's side and Defoe insists his focus is entirely on England.

"There's been a lot of speculation about me going to this club or that club, and other stuff about Bournemouth," he told Sky Sports

"At the minute, I've just been keeping my head down. I just want to focus on England, get that out of the way and then sit down with my family to decide what I want to do."

Defoe admitted he was happy to be back involved with the England squad.

"With two games coming up, just to be around the team I’m trying to enjoy it. Like I tweeted the other day, there’s no better feeling."

Defoe watched Sunderland finish bottom of the Premier League this year, but still managed to notch 15 goals for David Moyes' side.

Reports had suggested that he was set for a three-year-deal with Bournemouth, the team with whom he featured for on-loan during the 2000-01 season. Here he scored 18 goals in 29 appearances.

While nothing has been confirmed at this point, the former Tottenham striker did say he respected Eddie Howe's "fantastic" side.

"If I was stood here a retired footballer I would say for any player who wants to improve and play under a top manager and a real family club, then yeah, Bournemouth is a fantastic club to sign for.

"They’ve got a good team with a lot of energy and my time there when I was younger, I really enjoyed it."

He added: "A young manager in Eddie, what he’s achieved at that club is unbelievable."
