Jerome Valcke sacked as FIFA's General Secretary

Jerome Valcke's time at FIFA has officially come to an end.

The former General Secretary was suspended in September due to ethics charges brought against him over World Cup ticket sales. It was announced today that he has been dismissed from his role.

Valcke was Sepp Blatter's right-hand man at FIFA since 2007 and was seen by many as a potential successor to become President. He previously worked with FIFA as their Marketing Director before he was sacked due to his role in a sponsorship scandal between Visa and MasterCard.

In a statement released by FIFA today, they stated:

"The FIFA Emergency Committee decided, on 9 January 2016, to dismiss Jérôme Valcke from the position of FIFA Secretary General with immediate effect. Jérôme Valcke is therefore no longer the Secretary General of FIFA.

The employment relationship between FIFA and Jérôme Valcke has also been terminated."

Valcke's position has been taken by Markus Kattner, who held the position on an interim basis in 2007.
