Joe Schmidt on why turnaround puts France in "advantageous position" before Ireland game

Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt has highlighted the difficulty that his players are facing with a six day turnaround before Saturday's Six Nations trip to France.

The players are returning to their base at Carton House this evening ahead of a light training session tomorrow.

Schmidt has revealed just how difficult the six day turnaround will be to manage.

"We'll get together again and train again tomorrow. I think there's a lot of bruised bodies so we'll just go gently through a few things, get ourselves organised, train once on Thursday morning and then fly off to France. So it's going to be a very contained week because in the end we're going to have to go there as fresh as we can be. They will have had their feet up yesterday watching our game, analysing what we were doing and so I think that's an advantageous position to be in," he said.

A medical update will be delivered ahead of training, with Keith Earls the main fitness concern after he winger suffered a suspected concussion injury during the second half of yesterday's draw against Wales.

Meanwhile, Leinster have confirmed that Cian Healy and Mike Ross have both returned to training with them this week, but there is no indication as yet if they will be added to the Ireland squad or if they will be allowed to improve their fitness by playing for Leinster this Friday against Zebre.
