Joe Sheridan is making his Meath comeback as a goalkeeper

Former forward Joe Sheridan will make an appearance for Meath in the rather unfamiliar position of goalkeeper.

Sheridan is set to make his comeback against Laois in the O'Bryne Cup on Saturday. While his most famous moment in a Meath jersey came against Louth up at the other end of the pitch in 2010, Andy McEntee has named him in between the sticks in the starting side this weekend.

The Seneschalstown man has been named ahead of regular 'keepers Paddy O'Rourke and Conor McHugh, in the hopes of providing some competition to the squad.

Sheridan was also named in the squad that took on DIT and cruised to victory, but was an unused sub on the night.

Meath have started their O'Byrne cup campaign with two wins from two games, and speaking to GAA.ie, McEntee stated that he was happy with what he'd seen to date.

"The level of commitment and effort from everybody is fantastic. We have a big number [of players] there at the moment, everybody is putting in a huge effort. I think that can be seen by both performances. They weren't perfect by any means, but the appetite and work rate from everybody is what we were looking for really."

Similarly, Laois are two from two in their run to date, and McEntee said he expects a great contest between the two sides.

"I know it is early in the year, but there is something at stake. That adds a little bit to the occasion and hopefully both teams will get a bit out of it, but we are looking to go as far in this as we possibly can."
