John Giles says Conte outfoxed Pochettino in the FA Cup

Tottenham's defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup may have given the Antonio Conte's side the momentum in the Premier League, having seen off their nearest rivals soundly at Wembley Stadium.

The victory gives them the chance to secure an FA Cup-Premier League double in the Italian's first season in charge.

Speaking on Thursday night's Off The Ball, John Giles expressed his distaste with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino's comments after the game, commending his players for their efforts.

"I was amazed at what he said," said Giles. "'I'm proud of the players, they played brilliantly', this was a match that I don't think [Pochettino] did well tactically.

"He played Son at left-back to play as a wing-back. He gave away the penalty, but he's not a left-back. I think Pochettino paid too much respect to Chelsea instead of getting on with his own job.

"A win could have been a psychological blow to Chelsea. But Chelsea have marched on from that, with a win against Southampton the other night.

"It was a lost opportunity for Tottenham and I couldn't understand his comments about how he was delighted with the players."

He explained that, upon reflection, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa's absence from the squad did make sense for the Premier League leaders.

"At the time, I couldn't understand leaving Hazard on the bench. Costa wasn't playing well, so that was understandable.

"Then when Hazard came on, he scored and created a goal."

Hazard's performances this season saw him nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award, which was won by team-mate N'Golo Kante.
