John Giles says he "nearly choked on his toast" after reading Wilshere story

John Giles says he "nearly choked on his toast" after reading a headline which suggested that England manager Roy Hodgson is still backing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere for a place in his Euro 2016 squad if fit despite a nightclub story this week.

The England international has yet to play this season due to injury with Euro 2016 closing in fast and denies involvement in an any form of altercation in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Writing in his Herald column, Off The Ball's Thursday night football pundit John says Hodgson should be "telling Wilshere privately or publicly that his chance of going to France is hanging by a thread because of his latest nightclub excursion".

"He should be on the phone to him asking whether Wilshere has lost his mind and he should be reminding him that thousands of kids look up to England internationals," the Leeds and Ireland legend continued.

On Wilshere's future, John warned, "Wilshere is throwing away his talent and he has hardly played any football in the last few years. Before he knows it, it will all be over".
