John O'Shea among those released from clubs

The Republic of Ireland's John O'Shea is among those who have been released from their clubs following the end of the 2016/2017 season.

O'Shea, who is currently on duty with the Republic of Ireland, struggled to get game time with the club this season as Sunderland were relegated from the Premier League.

The 36-year-old, who is among 11 players released by the Black Cats, has been with the club for the last six seasons. He scored three goals across 182 appearances, but featured just 28 times in games this season.

He remains part of Martin O'Neill's squad, as they look to enhance their chances of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup against Austria this weekend.

It has been confirmed that Shay Given has been released by Stoke City, although this was made known last month after the club published its list of retained players for the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been released by Man United after one season at the club. The 35-year-old quickly established himself as a powerful scoring asset for the club, but a serious knee injury in April confined him to the sidelines for the rest of the season.
