Johnny Holland says playing for Munster was a "dream from an early age"

Johnny Holland's retirement from rugby was announced on Thursday afternoon, much to the disappointment of the Irish sporting community.

The 25-year-old fly-half broke into Munster's first team last season, starring for the province against Leinster in the Aviva Stadium. He played 11 times for the province.

Holland has had to retire due to a serious hamstring injury. The Cork native suffered an initial hamstring injury late in 2014, and despite spells in and out of the team, he has never been able to shake off the problem.

In a statement released on Thursday, Holland claimed his brief career in the red of Munster gave him "fantastic memories and friends for life".

Holland has since taken to Twitter, with a collage of photos of his time at Munster, including one with his sisters Gillian and Aisling. He claimed that picture "means so much" to him.

He called playing for Munster "a dream from an early age", and thanked everyone for all their support as he steps away from the game.

Last season, Munster fans saw Holland at his best. He will be missed.
