Jon Walters allays any fears among Irish fans with a positive injury update ahead of Euro 2016

With Ireland's opening Euro 2016 fixture looming closer, the Irish camp received some hopeful news today, when Stoke attacker Jon Walters offered a positive update on his calf injury.

The man who netted twice against Bosnia & Herzegovina to ensure our Euros qualification, injured is calf on Wednesday and didn't train with the national side this week as a precaution.

But Walters gave a positive injury update earlier today, which is relieving news for the Irish fans, with the clash against Sweden just over one week away.

In an interview with the FAI, Walters stressed that he intends to be fit to train with the squad on Monday.

"I had an operation on my knee seven weeks ago and when you come back you have secondary things. I had a little bit on tendinitis in both achilles and on the training ground it flares up a little, you just have to settle it down."

"You don't want to push through it and then go into next week, the week leading up to the game pushing yourself through it. If you have a chance, settle it down, which we did."

"I have just been working in the gym the past couple of days, pretty tough and looking to go ahead again on Monday."
