Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says allowing Bastian Schweinsteiger to return to first team training is a "human decision".
The 2014 World Cup-winning former Germany midfielder has been out of the first team picture at Old Trafford, ever since Mourinho succeeded Louis van Gaal as manager in the summer.
However on Monday, the former Bayern Munich midfielder made his return to first team training.
Of the decision to drop him in the first place Mourinho had said: "I normally like to work with 20 players plus the three goalkeepers which is what I do for 15 years.
"Because we have so many players but at the same time because we have so many competitions and especially the Europa League competition and I have to make my decisions. Simple!"
But whether his return to first team training results in game-time for Schweinsteiger is another matter.
Mourinho was coy about that possibility in press conference ahead of the Europa League tie with Fenerbahce.
"Looking at Bastian and the way he was working professionally with the fitness coach, we think that it's a human decision, a professional decision, to bring him back to the team. He'll be much better prepared and in much better condition in case his future decision is to leave the club; he'll be much better prepared for competition if he stays with us," he said.
"It becomes one more option. At the moment, we have no problems in midfield like we have in defence but, if we have problems in midfield, it's another option for us. It's a human decision based on the training numbers and methods, but also a decision that can be positive for the group. It's positive for us and for him."
Man United take on Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday, fresh from a 0-0 draw against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.
