Jose Mourinho hails "phenomenal" Henrikh Mkhitaryan after victory over Sunderland

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has called Henrikh Mkhitaryan's goal in their 3-1 St Stephen's Day win over Sunderland "phenomenal".

United made it four wins on the bounce in the Premier League yesterday evening and the victory means they're level on points with fifth placed Tottenham.

Mkhitaryan's "scorpion kick" was perhaps the highlight of a convincing win over strugglers Sunderland, but the Portuguese boss said that the Armenian's performance as a whole was one deserving of praise.

"He was going up and up and then the injury came," Mourinho said after the game. "He was out of two matches. To be back, not only with a goal I thought he brought some quality with his performance. I'm obviously happy."

Of the goal itself, Mkhitaryan said: "That was the best goal I’ve ever scored.

"I was very excited. The first thing I did was look at the assistant and I saw it was not ruled as offside so I just started to celebrate.

"I was expecting the ball to be in front of me and then I realised I was in front of it. As the ball was behind me, the only thing I could do was a backheel so I did that and I succeeded."
