Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp says he is confident that Christian Benteke will improve his goal scoring form but cautions that the striker is running out of time.

The £32.5m signing, has not scored a goal in the last 11 matches and his performances so far this season have accumulated just seven goals.

Despite the famine however, Benteke remains Liverpool's top scorer. But with Daniel Sturridge making his long anticipated return to the first team in Tuesday's FA Cup defeat to West Ham, Benteke's position could be in jeopardy.

Liverpool will travel to Benteke's former parish Aston Villa tomorrow where things could worsen for the Belgian if Klopp's history with former clubs prevails.

Speaking to the media, the German coach said:

''I have not the best experience with players coming back to former clubs, it is usually they make more pressure for themselves because they want to show extra. I don't know the history with Christian and Aston Villa so I don't know whether they will welcome him with open arms or whistles but that is not too interesting for me."

Commenting on Benteke's struggle with form, team manager Jürgen Klopp said that the Belgian is doing his utmost to reclaim his form:

"I can do a lot of things but at the end - and it is not only with Christian - the last important help comes from the player himself. It is not the easiest period of his career but the number of opportunities (he is getting) is a good sign, if he had no opportunities it would be a much bigger problem but it is not too easy.''

"You cannot hide yourself. I talked to him a few times and gave him some advice as a human being and a coach and he has really tried to come back to an easy moment.''

Newstalk's Off The Ball will have live commentary from this game tomorrow for a 2.05pm kick-off
