Jurgen Klopp leaves Karius out of Liverpool's team to face Middlesbrough

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dropped goalkeeper Loris Karius for tonight's Premier League trip to Middlesbrough.

Last season's No 1 Simon Mignolet starts in place of Karius.

The 23-year-old German had come under fire from pundits after a dip in form that saw the Reds drop five points in their last two games.

A mistake in the 4-3 loss at Bournemouth 10 days ago was followed by further criticism for the way in which he was beaten by Dimitri Payet's free kick when the Reds faced West Ham on Sunday.

Karius had been criticised by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville after the Bournemouth match, before the summer signing responded in kind during an interview with The Daily Mail

After Neville had renewed his criticism along with further remarks from his brother Phil on Match of the Day 2 on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp hit back at the former Manchester United duo during a press conference.

He had said: "Especially the Neville brothers, the one who was a manager, he should know. He showed he struggled with a job to judge players - why do we let them talk about players on television?

"He’s not interested in helping a Liverpool player. I don’t listen to them. Carra doesn’t speak too much about United players, and the Neville brothers don’t care much about Liverpool. Tell him I’m not on Twitter. If he wants me, Twitter doesn’t help."

However, despite that, Klopp has chosen to leave out Karius tonight nevertheless.

Mignolet has also been criticised by Neville during Sky Sports analysis in the past after errors during games.
