Juventus ordered to pay €2million to Nike over "three-star" kits

Juventus have been ordered to pay Nike €2million because of a little gold star on their jerseys.

The Italian club had a partnership with the American sportswear giant when Juventus won their 30th Serie A title in 2014. Due to the Calciopoli Scandal when Juventus were stripped of their 2005 and 2006 titles, the Italian authorities claimed the Turin side has only won 28 titles.

Juventus asked to have an extra star to their kits for their 30th title, but Nike refused. The Italian side decided to make some "three-star" jerseys themselves which was the cause of the seven-figure fine.

According to MediaSet Sport, Nike were looking for €80million in compensation, as the deal between the two sides was cut short due to the unofficial jerseys.

The current Serie A champions, who have since won a further two titles, released a statement which has been seen by Football-Italia.net.

"In relation to stories regarding the legal action between Nike and Juventus, which were released illegitimately and in violation of privacy clauses in the arbitration, the club wishes to clarify that:

The sum to be paid is considerably inferior to €2m.

The sum has no relation to the initiative ’30 sul campo,’ which if anything produced commercial benefits to Nike, as recognised by the arbitration.

Juventus reserve the right to take action, including an appeal to the arbitration decision."

German sportswear giants Adidas now provide kits to Juventus.
