Why Juventus have not matched their full potential in the Champions League

Juventus are quite a distance ahead of AC Milan and Inter Milan when it comes to the number of Serie A titles they have won.

Yet the Bianconeri's European record at the very highest level does not correspond at all to their domestic achievements.

Indeed they are behind both Milan and Inter when it comes to European Cups and Champions League.

While the latter have seven and three titles respectively in Europe's flagship competition, Juventus only have two which were won in 1985 and 1996. The first occurred on the night of the Heysel Disaster which saw many Juventus fans lose their lives. The second came via a penalty shootout victory against Ajax which was then followed by defeats to Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid in the next two Champions League finals.

How Juventus went from relegation to the verge of Champions League glory

On Saturday night in Cardiff, Juve will be looking for title No 3 when they take on Real and ahead of that decider, The Gentleman Ultra founder Richard Hall joined me on a special Team 33 podcast to discuss Juventus' European record and why a club with so much domestic success has not translated that fully on the grandest stage of all.
